RE: Internet Service While RV'ing

We use a Sprint broadband modem and Cradlepoint Router to support our 2 laptops and server. Go to 3GStore.com for expert advice and service. We have been very happy with our service, camping at state parks and National Forest campgrounds all around Oregon.

RE: Verizon EVDO may be the best way to surf

We've got the Sprint EVDO with the 727n modem and an antenna from 3GStore.com and have had great service (ie: speed) all over Oregon. We are now on the coast 5 miles north of Bandon (small town) and are operating normally. Sprint has no download limit, so I even downloaded a 1.2gig file last night.

RE: Sprint Card

Contact the tech people at 3GStore.com. They have an antenna that pulls in great signal for us with a Sprint broadband account with a 727 modem.

RE: MSRP - Where to start?

I'd suggest researching the lowest possible price for the unit you like on line from one of the internet dealers like RVwholesalers.com or rvdirect. There are 4 or 5 that have good reputations on this forum and they do offer very low pricing. We were going to buy ours from Rvwholesaers.com until our local dealer offered pricing as good when considering our cost to pick up the unit in Illinois. Local dealer warranty service is a myth.

RE: Wireless Internet Help Needed

I'd suggest that you contact 3GStore.com. They specialize in broadband wireless internet. We bought our 727 broadband modem and Cradlepoint cellular router from them with unlimited downloads from Sprint in the US. They listened to our description of our fulltime lifestyle and then recommended equipment at a surprisingly reasonable cost. Tech support was excellent. Good people to buy from.

RE: Replacing a WFCO Converter

I just replaced the WFCO 8255 with a PD 9260 in order to get reliable charging of my 2 6 volt batteries. Call Randy at BestConverters.com. The installation went very well and the new PD fit into the bottom of the distribution panel where the WFCO fit.
I especially like the charge controller that comes with the PD. I can see what the controller is doing at all times and force it into bulk mode if desired.
I would especially recommend Randy at BestConverter.com. I had a problem with a VoltMinder. The next day after my email, he let me know that he had shipped a replacement - no charge. Great service from an exceptionally knowledgeable person. Highly recommended.

Washing your RV

We've just started full timing and, thanks to rain and dust, have a very dirty 5th wheel.
Besides expensive truck washes, where do you wash your RV? Anywhere that is DIY?

RE: RV.net Blog - Sharing A BroadBand Cellular Connection

chrisguld,
We use the Booster Antenna EVDOalex recommended from 3GStore.com. I can't find a brand name on their website, but it is featured in their reviews section. Perhaps Alex will post a link.
We are using Sprint with a 727 modem in our Cradlepoint router. We have had good connection with the internet in our truck with the router mounted in the bedroom and the antenna on the bedroom window of our 5th wheel.

RE: RV.net Blog - Sharing A BroadBand Cellular Connection

EVDOalex set us up with a Cradlepoint cellular router and broadband service. We are running a server and 2 laptops on the router and get absolutely great service. I am posting this sitting in a State Park in the mountains in Southern Oregon by our campfire while waiting for the gingerbread to cook in the Dutch oven and the coals to burndown for grilling dinner. What more can you ask for!
Set up was quick and very easy.

RE: How do you protect your carpet from slide-out rollers?

We bought slide out plastic protectors from our dealer: LifestylesRV.com north of Seattle. They have worked perfectly to protect our carpet. Yes, we also are not impressed with the quality of the carpet.

RE: Making the switch from camper to fifth wheel, floor plans?

We love our Crossroads Cruiser 28RL which has a large window in the rear sitting area. Both DW and I cook extensively and with the cold, rainy weather this spring have done it inside. Our kitchen area works well with both of us working together on elaborate meals. We love the floor plan with a total length of 30 feet, we camp in National Forests and Parks as well as COE's and State Parks.

RE: What fiver do you fulltime in? What do you pull it with?

We just started a year or so of full time. See our signature for details.
The floor plan of our 5er has worked out as well or better than we expected. However, the 7.3 F250 doesn't have as much pulling power on steep mountain passes as I expected. Many times today I was down to 45MPH in the slow lane with the big trucks as we did the I5 in Southern Oregon.

RE: Purchasing generator - where to buy?

Definitely buy from WiseSales. I have bought 3 Honda 2000's from them. Price has been $870 including freight. Service has been outstanding. Many on this forum have bought from them and have recommended them.

RE: Who else doesn't have a television in their RV?

We're just starting out on a year's full time. We don't have a TV in the RV, actually don't have one at home. However, we have 2 new laptops and a server, which could act like a TV. Anything that we want, we get over the internet, which is usually faster than the TV was and we can select when to watch. The broadband Sprint service runs through a cellular router so all the computers can access it.
Even with all this equipment, during the day, we can usually be found out hiking or biking or cooking on our campfire.

RE: Big oil, what can we the people do about it???????

I wish "Big Oil" was doing as well as the myth. Who gets the profits of the oil companies? - All of us that have pension plans, IRA'a, 401K's, stocks, union pension plans and mutual funds. Profits are used only to pay dividends that are collected by these funds or to fund exploration for new oil or production equipment. Microsoft, Intel and many other companies earn far higher return on assets than any oil company.
Who gets all the high oil $$$$ - the despots that steal the money from the Oil Producing "countries", the hedge funds and the futures speculators. These are who our government, politicians and the public should be loudly blaming.

Call the folks at 3GStore. They set us up with Sprint Broadband and a cellular router. Easy to set up and they have great tech support. Access and speed have been quite good. We had internet even when we didn't have cell phone signal.

RE: crossroads cruiser

We are just starting out on a year's full time in our new 2008 Cruiser 28RL. So far, the Cruiser has been outstanding. Only a very few, very minor items that the dealer corrected after our 2 night test outing. We pulled it over the 3000 ft. pass east of Seattle on I-90 with wet roads, snowing with no problems. Washington interstates certainly have more than their share of potholes and pavement problems which the RV handled with ease. Everything stayed in place in the cabinets. Based on experience to date, we certainly recommend it.
